This Hidden Gem of America is Right Under Your Nose
If there is one thing you ABSOLUTELY need to know about Ohio University is that we love our bars. In our town of approximately 25,000 people there are 18 bars in a 3 block radius. It is absurd how often our students go to the bars. But, that is half the reason why Ohio University is the place to be. We don’t need a fucking reason to go to the bars here. However, you can count on an Ohio University student to pull a reason out of thin air. For example, last year there was a boil-alert in Athens because of a water main break. All the bars opened early that day and the student population went bonkers for “Drought Fest”. Homecoming is also a GIANT weekend for the bars. Almost all of the bars open extremely early on Saturday at around 6 am for Kegs and Eggs. I know you’re probably thinking, “Who the fuck wakes up at 6 am to drink beer and eat eggs after an aggressive Friday of boozing??” We do. And it is our job and honor to keep this tradition alive every homecoming year.
The key to being successful and having a good budget is to be self-disciplined and stick to your set budget. Once you set a budget find ways to stick to that budget or even spend less than your budget if possible. Try to put money back in a safe place or bank account that can’t be touched, or find a way to make your money hard to get to so it’s not easily accessible. People tend to spend more money if its easily accessible, so if you make your money hard to get to then in the long run you will save more and more money.
There are multiple ways to save money, but if you follow these two basic rules after you graduate college you will be less in debt than your peers. This will also translate to your habits as you grow older which will allow you to be more financially independent.
One thing many people don't know about Athens, OH is that there are a few hidden microbreweries that are far underrated and have some of the better tasting beers that I have ever tried! After turning 21, I was told by a friend to try expanding my horizons and try out these places and I am so happy that I did. In my opinion there is nothing better then drinking a well sought out beer on a beautiful fall day so I decided to grab a few friends and head to a new place, The Devils Kettle myself.
